Using Your Out-of-Network Benefits
Many health insurance plans include out-of-network mental health benefits that can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs.
To make the process as easy as possible, I partner with Thrizer, a secure platform that helps manage eligible out-of-network insurance claims. Depending on your insurance plan, Thrizer may:
- Verify your out-of-network mental health benefits.
- Submit eligible claims electronically on your behalf.
- Estimate your financial responsibility before your appointment.
- Allow you to pay only your estimated patient responsibility at the time of your session, rather than paying the full fee and waiting for reimbursement.
Every insurance plan is different, so your actual cost will depend on your out-of-network benefits, deductible, coinsurance, and reimbursement rates.
During the Discovery Call process, we’ll help you verify if you have out-of-network benefits and how much your copay would be by sending you an email from Thrizer to enter your information to check eligibility and reimbursement. Once you submit your information to Thrizer, you and your clinician will receive an email detailing eligibility and reimbursement.
Check your out-of-network insurance benefits in our THRIZER OON Benefit Checker.
Why Private Pay?
Choosing a private pay therapist allows treatment to be guided by your goals rather than insurance requirements. Together, we’ll determine the frequency, length, and focus of therapy based on what best supports your progress—not on limitations set by an insurance company.
Private pay therapy also offers several advantages:
- Personalized care tailored to your unique goals and circumstances.
- Greater flexibility in the frequency, length, and duration of therapy.
- Clinical decisions based on your needs rather than insurance guidelines.
- The freedom to choose a therapist based on expertise, approach, and personal fit.
- Greater privacy if you choose not to use insurance benefits.
Payment Options
I strive to make paying for therapy simple and convenient. I accept major credit cards, and you may also use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) card for eligible therapy services.
HSA and FSA cards must have a Visa, Discover, Mastercard or American Express logo on the card. If you’re unsure whether your plan covers psychotherapy services, I encourage you to check with your HSA or FSA plan administrator.
Good Faith Estimate Notice
Private Pay clients have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
We do not accept in-network insurance pay clients. If you are only interested in an in-network Insurance Pay or EAP Pay caseload opening, we welcome you to consider joining the Therapy Discovery Call Wait List to hear if we are available to take on additional clients matching your needs in the future.
